Make your summer holiday packing life easier with our 20-piece summer holiday capsule. Just add a swimsuit, shoes, beach bag and sunnies and you're good to go.
The concept of a travel capsule is one that you’ll be familiar with if you’ve been following me over at Styling You. The reason why we talk about capsule wardrobes is because we want to make your life easier. Having the structure of a capsule when you’re packing definitely does that and you'll be less prone to overpacking.
How I like to start is with a colour theme so that the pieces all work together in different combinations. You also need to think about the weather at your destination and the type of activities you’ll be doing. For most summer holidays it’s about lightweight pieces and perhaps some lightweight layers, depending on your destination.
Minimising the number of pieces you take is all about the versatility of the pieces that you pack. By versatility I mean does a piece lend itself to working thrown over the top of the swimsuit as well as dressed up with wedges or heels for dinner out.
When it comes to shoes, this can be one of the tricky things to minimise in your suitcase. I like to carry on average three pairs of shoes plus shoes for exercise. For a summer holiday capsule I will include a pair of slides or sandals, a pair of wedges and a dress sneaker.
This 20-piece summer holiday capsule is in neutral colours but there is nothing stopping you from substituting pieces from our suggestions with different colours from your own wardrobe.
A neutral structure gives you a starting point and then you can change things to suit your particular style and maybe add in some favourite pieces that you want to take with you.
Of course a summer beach holiday needs a swimsuit. Head over to the Styling You blog for a little encouragement there and some ideas on how you can find a swimsuit that suits your lifestyle and makes you feel fabulous.
