Why I love a capsule wardrobe
Far from limiting your outfit creativity, a strong foundation capsule of wardrobe basics opens up the rest of your wardrobe to infinite possibilities.
What’s a capsule wardrobe?
In a nutshell, a capsule wardrobe is all about filling your wardrobe with MORE of the pieces that mix and match with each other. It’s about having MORE pieces that are versatile – that can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion.
It’s not about having a full-to-overflowing wardrobe, it’s about consciously and mindfully filling your wardrobe with pieces that work with each other.
When creating a capsule wardrobe – for work, play or travel - starting with a base of neutrals helps you to extend the possible outfit combinations from fewer pieces.
In this summer workwear capsule, I’ve chosen black, white and navy as my base, with a pop of animal print and outfit interest from belts, bags and shoes.
Your base colours might be pinks, blues or earthy colours. There is no right or wrong – it’s what you feel comfortable and confident in.
The capsule becomes the foundation of your wardrobe from which you build out outfits with more colour, prints and sequins (the show-pony pieces).
If you can master the capsule concept and adapt it to your own, you'll never be stuck for something to wear.

This is the time of year that we tend to focus our wardrobes back in on the working week. And your work wardrobe might look a lot different from a few years ago. The ongoing COVID situation has changed forever what dressing for work looks like.
Whether you're back in an office, still at home or doing a bit of both, this 9-piece capsule is a great starting point for you. How I've styled the 14 outfits is hopefully inspiration for you to understand just how important wardrobe basics are in your wardrobe.
Styling You The Label was born almost three years ago because I wanted to create a range of quality, Australian-made, non-boring basics that will serve you well as your foundation pieces year after year.
In this capsule, I've mixed up our signature technical fabric pieces, with our popular jersey t-shirt fabric and new luxe linen. Everything is designed to last and look good every time you wear it. Yes, the linen will need a little extra care in the laundry/ironing department but our technical fabric and our jersey just needs to be hung up on hangers as soon as it's washed.
The key to wardrobe of summer separates working for you is:
1. Having neutral coloured basics to anchor your show-pony pieces.
2. Having more pieces that work back with each other.
3. Having more pieces in your wardrobe that can be dressed up or down with a change of shoes and a bag.
These three things help take the stress out of the daily "what to wear" question. They ease you into creating outfits, giving you confidence to play and experiment with options that show your personality to the world.
