It's Monday morning. For some of us, we're logging on to computers, dialling into Google Hangouts or Zoom calls and working at home in this new "normal". Maybe it's the first time you've worked from home for weeks in a row? I've been there. It was my decision when I first started my business but it was one that took me and my wardrobe a little time to adjust to.
What works for me, may not work for you but I thought I'd share some of my tips for what to wear when working from home in case it's the motivation you need this morning to get up, get dressed and get on with the day.
Now, I love my PJs like the next person. Yesterday, I proudly stayed in mine until 2pm. I can't remember the last time I did that but there was nowhere to go and a book to read. Both compelling reasons not to get showered and dressed. Today, it's a different story. Today, I've got a task list to complete and I know that I need routine and structure to motivate me.
What I choose to wear very much helps me distinguish between relaxation and work. That doesn't mean I wear anything uncomfortable but it does mean I choose to create a smart casual outfit that feels a couple of notches above PJs, so that I mean business. I put on shoes and spend about five minutes creating a simple makeup look.
For me, this tricks the brain into thinking I'm going somewhere, even if it is to the next room! On Fridays, I'm taking it further and embracing Formal Friday - wearing something a bit special, something that I otherwise won't get a chance to wear for a long time. Give it a try this week and see how you go.
